Downtown Host Reviews (December 27, 2007)

Review by maniakaz (Review date December 27, 2007, with various follow-ups)
"Downtownhost.com: review"
Signed today for a Bronze plan for 1 year... Then:
14:09 - DTH signup email
14:12 - wellcome email.
Later chatted with their support staf about possibility to restore y site from backup. I have to notice that prior to this their support told it would take 10 days (if I remember well) to move site from Cpanel to Cpanel. So, I decided it would take too long and took backup/restore option. Support tyold me I need to send email and they will do everything else for me. When I finished uploading, emailed them:
15:37 - autoresponder. "Request received"
15:40 - answer from their staff. Site fully restored. ALl they asked from me was not to change in Cpanel. But since there was no information, I did not change anything.
Later I wanted some information about multidomain and tried to reach support chat. Tried 3 times, nobody answered. Later I managed to catch Sebastian and he explained me everything in details. I am very satisfied the way Sebastian works and treats his company's customers.
Prior to this I have bombarded Jedito and DTH support with lots of questions, sometimes trying to get real help, sometimes just testing.
Overall, support is at least 9/10, speed - 10/10.

Follow-up #1:
First impression: site functions slower when compared to what is was at TCH.
Issues:
1. Some problems with my Joomla. At December 29 my Joomla crashed. I contacted support (2007 12 29. 07:58). Soon I was answered something was corrupt and needs to be deleted. The question was if I ok that. Some hours later (7, if I do recall it good) I received an answer telling that

. I responded to support telling "Yes, I give ok on any action that would help to restore my site.". Site was restored, password was restored by first request.
2. Today my site crashed without any explanation. Lasted for maximum 20 seconds (or how long does it take to see Joomla's screen of death and log back into admin panel?). Did not contact support as it solved automatically.
3. yesterday tried to contact support some 3 times without luck. Later realised I had no need to do so - and did not answer to Jorge's email.
Issue number 2 is natural, I think + it did not cause any problems. Support, when is contacted, is allways top quality: the way it is accustomed at DTH and the way it should be anywhere.
Some technical problems remain, but they are my own requirements and has nothing to do with DTH. I think I will solve tyhem one day (untill now - no luck). After issue number 2 there has been no problems untill yesterday.
Overall, I am satisfied with them and I am staying with DTH. Money back? No, thanks.

Follow-up #2:
Negative: none. No downtime, no crash, nothing bad at all.
Jobs done: Installed Typo3 cms on subdomain - works perfectly. I thought there was an opportunity that Joomla will conflict with Typo3. No conflicts. Installed SMF forum - works nice. 2)Parked one domain (which I reveal later).
I am very satisfied with Downtownhost.com. Next month my Typo3 website will start working and getting some real traffic. That's going to be a kind of exam.

Follow-up #3:
One accident: forgot login/passw combination for main site. Tried several passwords and boom - site is gone. Did not ghet the point, bombarded support with "what happens?". It turned to be 100% my fault: after too many attempts their firewall blocked me. Soon everything was restored.
My fault, not theirs - and no more problems with DTH.
I finally have add-on domain (first time in my life!), www.monetos.net. Still in RC phase (Gallery does not work properly). First it functioned as sub-domain of my main website, now as normal domain. No problems found.

Follow-up #4:
2 problems arose:
1) both sites were unavailable 10 April from cca 18 o'clock. Do not know how long did it take, because my internet connection reappeared obnly at 19 o'clock and everything was doing fine. Asked at DTH forum and was told:
The server was momentarily "attacked" by "bots <...>indeed, [server]never was down, but it was overloaded
status: solved.
